Everyone’s Perfect Shop Looks a Little Different. Customizing tools in your woodworking or metal fabrication shop is a natural progression. The DP|20 drill press allows you to drill to the center of a 20” board, and it’s virtually perfect. Still, even with all the built-in features like auto-start and reversible drilling, you may want to personalize your machine with some extra storage, a dust collection fence, or even a secondary LED light. Luckily, the DP|20 has the perfect foundation for your customizations, so let’s explore some fantastic options.
Large Ergonomic Handle. Unlike a traditional 3-arm drill press handle, the Laguna DP|20 uses a smart extendable handle for maximum leverage. It has a massive hub with sturdy depth stop, for a finished depth you can count on. Plus, a digital depth display lets you know exactly how deep you’ve drilled.
Cast Iron Multi-Function Table is the Perfect Base for Your Mods. The DP|20 sports one of the most impressive 15” x 22” cast iron tables on the market. With integral T-tracks and 5/8” dog holes, it accepts a variety of woodworking and welding clamps. Here, an aftermarket vacuum fence has been added to the T-tracks for even greater versatility. This setup is extremely useful for batching out large jobs, like drilling cabinet doors for 35mm hinges. Plus, an extended 6” quill travel makes this an incredibly versatile tool.
Digital Headstock. With all the advanced features like auto-start option and reversible motor rotation, the DP|20 adds a lot of value to your shop. Running the motor in reverse is sometimes helpful for ultra-smooth chamfers, or you can use the auto-reverse function for production runs when tapping threads. The large 3-3/4 x 6-7/8” touch screen is pressure sensitive, so it even works with a gloved hand.
THE BEST TABLE. Until now, I’ve never seen a drill press table built for woodworking. With the three deep T-tracks and 10 dog holes, this rock-solid cast iron table will accept a variety of clamps. Common track saw clamps work great to secure your work, or you can use specialty metal working or welding table clamps designed to fit a 5/8” diameter hole. It all adds up to tremendous versatility at the drill press, no matter what type of work you do.
Variable Speed. Of all the amazing features on the DP|20, my favorite might just be the digital variable speed. With one knob you can adjust the speed of the 1.5HP pulse width modulation (PWM) motor from 60 to 3600 rpm for a wide variety of drilling tasks. That sure beats manual belt changes on analog drill presses!
Drill Metal and Synthetics with Ease. Now that changing speed is so easy, you’ll be able to easily drill aluminum and steel. Or just decrease RPM for larger bits to maximize efficiency. So, whether you’re a woodworker that dabbles in metal work or vice versa, the features of the DP|20 have you covered.
LED Lighting is Standard, with Optional Upgrades. Luckily, the DP|20 features an effective LED light built into the headstock. With a touch of the digital screen, you’ll illuminate your work surface for accurate drilling. Or you can take it a step further and add one of Laguna’s optional LED lights like this color-changing chameleon.
Ambidextrous Features. Both the quill handle and the optional LED light can be mounted on the left or right of the machine to suit your preference. The head stock is drilled and tapped for four mounting holes on either side, to add a Chameleon or SpineLock LED Light.
The Standard Features Just Don’t Quit. Not only is the LED light included, but a pair of laser crosshairs helps align the center of your drill bit. Both lasers are easily adjustable for precision drilling, and just like the LED light, the lasers are controlled from the digital touchscreen.
Robust Build Quality. The mechanical parts of the DP|20 are industrial art. The table height crank and locking levers are large and sturdy, making a standard drill press look like a toy. Every aspect of the frame, stand and crank has been leveled up from your last drill press. Remember that frustrating wobble as you adjust the table height? That’s a thing of the past with Laguna’s brawny rack and pinion crank assembly.
Really, This Table Has It All. Most drill press tables are woefully inadequate for woodworking, but Laguna hit this one out of the park. Not only does it tilt for angled or vertical drilling operations, but it also has a built-in sacrificial insert. The cast iron table has a recess that accepts common ½” or ¾” MDF inserts, making replacements readily available. Plus, 4 screws set the insert perfectly flush with table for a precisely flat work surface.
It’s Your Time. If you’ve been putting up with your old drill press for too long, your time has finally arrived. With such a stable frame and base, the DP|20 is the perfect platform for your future expansion. Enjoy the world-class features now, and modify them in the future to perfectly match your needs in the shop. Shop Laguna DP|20 Drill Press
